Redox Probe Range
For the measurement of reduction - oxidation potential (Redox) measurements in industrial environments, we offer a full range of Redox probes to cover a full spectrum of applications.
Firstly - there are a number of different terms used for a device used to measure Redox, we break these down as follows:-
Redox Sensor
We use this term to broadly cover any type of device used to measure Redox.
Redox Electrode
The term 'Redox Electrode' is used to refer to glass bodied Redox sensor range. These can be used to measure Redox in some industrial environments, normally if used in conjunction with an inline Redox sensor housing. If you're looking for a replacement Redox sensor for this type of application then please refer to the Redox electrode section.
Redox Probe
A Redox Probe is a term we reserve for our industrial bodied Redox sensors.
Our Redox probe range have a number of different body designs and have some variation in the materials of construction for the wetted parts (those parts that are in contact with the solution being measured). Commonly the wetted parts are manufactured in materials designed for immersion in concentrated chemicals where materials less suited to the environment would be corroded.
Every Redox probe within our range includes a double junction to prevent electrode poisoning and increase the lifespan of the sensor.
Redox Probe Reference
For our industrial Redox probe range - we only use an annular reference, also known as a peripheric junction. This is because an annular reference is non-blocking, which guarantees continuous Redox measurement. This significantly reduces the requirement to remove the probe to be cleaned which is important to our process critical industrial customers.
The annular reference is also available shaped into our tuff tip design. The tuff-tip is designed to reduce the lateral visibility of the platinum electrode, which in effect means that platinum is not protruding further than the reference material.
For example - with a tuff tip Redox probe if the probe is placed on a flat surface with the platinum electrode facing down - the platinum will not be in contact with the flat surface - only the tuff tip will be. This means that if a tuff tip redox probe is placed into a pipe with a flow or into an open vessel with an industrial mixer creating agitation - no solids within the solution will be able to cause mechanical damage to the platinum reference electrode.
We've tried to limit our reference materials to the two most chemically resistant and mechanically strong types available. One is a Redox probe with a ceramic reference, and the other is a Redox probe with a PTFE reference. Both are very chemically resistant and offer a non-fouling reference junction to ensure rapid changes in Redox value to be monitored.
Redox Probe Body
We understand that industrial Redox probes are normally kept in process for the duration of their working lives. These are normally either screwed in-place or mounted into a riser tube for insertion into a vessel. As such our Redox probe range all include threaded connections for either or both of these two purposes.
The second key factor is the materials of construction. For our Redox probe inserts we have used PVC, and for the remainder of our Redox probe range we have standardised on PVDF (Kynar) for greater chemical compatibility.
Platinum Redox Probe
All of the Redox sensors within our Redox electrode and Redox probe range use an inert metal electrode manufactured in platinum. We use high temperature proprietary polymerised reference materials and a double junction to the silver silver-chloride (Ag Ag-Cl) reference in the construction of all of our industrial Redox probes.
Historically we have offered a metal electrode manufactured in gold as well as calomel references - for very strong oxidising reactions (such as Aqua Regia) please get in touch with our sales office we can discuss your requirements.
Our Redox probes are available ex-stock with a BNC process connector, if you require a different style of connector then please take a look at the connections available as part of the pH sensor connections type and if in doubt - just get in touch!
