Chemical feeder and tablet holder range from AWE for use with bromine or trichlor tablets

Chemical Feeder / Low Pressure Brominators

Chemical feeders are devices that are used to provide sanitised or disinfected water into a process to provide pathogen free water. They are commonly found being used to treat water in cooling towers for legionella control and for use in residential swimming pools, commercial swimming pools and municipal swimming pools for chlorination or disinfection purposes.

The chemical feeders offer a number of advantages, primarily they are very cost effective ways of disinfecting large quantities of water automatically, with strong disinfectants such as bromine or chlorine (trichlor) in tablet form.

The chemical feeders can be integrated with solenoid valves and controlled from instrumentation, commonly chlorine controllers, cooling water controllers or redox controllers, so that the amount of disinfected water that is delivered to the process can be controlled.

They are also incredibly simple to use, simple to maintain, and easily incorporating them into new or existing pipework.

Chemical Feeder Capacity

Each chemical feeder has as a set capacity which dictates the amount of bromine or chlorine (trichlor) tablets that the chemical feeder can hold.

In addition to capacity the chemical feeders are available in two different installation types - Inline or offline installation.

Inline Chemical Feeder

online chemical feeder diagram

An online chemical feeder is installed directly into the pipework meaning that the process feed water or make-up water flows directly through the chemical feeder. If a recirculating pump is fitted, the output feeds through the inline chemical feeder too.

The inline chemical feeders are rated for use with a pressure of up to 2.7 Bar. If the pressure is likely to exceed 2.7 bar we strongly recommend looking at a high pressure brominator

The inline chemical feeders all have a patented regulating valve fitted to them - this allows precision control of the amount of water that is produced by the inline chemical feeder.

Please take note of the flow rates and pressure ratings of the inline chemical feeders to ensure it matches the process requirements.

Offline Chemical Feeders

offline chemical feeder diagram

As the name suggests - offline chemical feeders are installed out of the main pipeline in a secondary bypass line or secondary line, either using saddle clamps to create the flexible bypass, or using rigid Tee Pieces as per the diagram.

This uses the bernoulli principle of fluid dynamics to ensure that a flow is passed through the offline chemical feeder and produce the disinfected or sanitised water.

The offline chemical feeders tend to offer a higher storage capacity and can produce a greater volume of disinfected or sanitised water. The amount of sanitised water can be accurately controlled using the flow regulating valve.

When considering an offline chemical feeder make sure to check that the process flow rate is suitable for your application. When considering the process pressure, the offline chemical feeder is only suitable for a maximum pressure of 3.4 Bar - if the process has a pressure greater then a high pressure brominator should be used.
