Liquid Level Electrodes
We offer a range of liquid level electrodes which are designed to fully automate processes where the level of liquid contained within a tank or other vessel.
When combined with a level controller the level electrodes allows a system to automatically carry out a number of actions. Commonly the level electrodes are used to trigger high alarms, start actions, or end actions as required.
Our level electrodes are designed to work in conjunction with a level controller to give a relay switching point for common tasks. This often includes starting / stopping pumps, opening / closing valves, or triggering remote alerts to chemical suppliers.
Where multiple actions are required, a level electrode holder with multiple level electrodes can be used in conjunction with multiple level controllers. This often includes actions such as controlling liquid levels between two points and using local high / low level alarms.
How many level electrodes do I need?
A typical level electrode system uses a minimum of 3 level sensors.
The first sensor and normally the longest is the ground or reference level electrode, which should always be immersed in the process liquid.
The number of electrodes required after this is normally designated by what functions are required. It is strongly advisable to only use one level electrode for one function - doubling up can cause interference problems. Some of the common level electrode functions are highlighted below:-
High Level Alarm
The high level alarm works with a reference electrode and a high level alarm electrode.
When the liquid level rises above the reference and meets the level alarm electrode - the level controller signals a high level has been met.
Low Level Alarm
When used for a low level application we use a reference electrode and a single low level electrode.
When the liquid level falls below the low level electrode, but above the reference electrode - the controller indicates a low level.
Pumping Out Between Levels
In this setup we have a long reference electrode, a P1 Start Level Electrode and P2 Stop Level Electrode.
When the tank fills and reaches P2 - the level controller calls for the pump to start discharging the liquid from the tank.
As the liquid is pumped out of the tank, it falls below the P1 level electrode. When this happens the level controller calls for the pump to stop pumping.
Pumping In Between Levels
In this setup we have a long reference electrode, a P1 Stop Level Electrode and P2 Start Level Electrode.
When the tank empties and reaches P2 - the level controller calls for the pump to start filling the liquid in the tank.
As the liquid is pumped into the tank, it reaches the P1 level electrode. When this happens the level controller calls for the pump to stop pumping.
Level Electrodes in Concentrated Chemicals
Automated level control where concentrated chemicals are used is a very common application - any removal of manual involvement in chemical handling is commendable particularly when those chemicals are process strength.
As such - we offer our level electrodes in a number of different materials. These include:-
- 316 Stainless Steel
- Hastelloy C
- Titanium
- Plastic Coated
- PVC & Carbon
We're also able to offer custom materials and lengths suitable for a range of applications.
Level Electrode Mounting
We offer a range of mounting types for our level electrodes - commonly these are manufactured with a threaded BSP connection for screwing into a compatible fitting, alternatively we offer flange and union fittings as required.
Alternatively - we offer custom fabricated surface / wall mounting brackets to accommodate a number of level electrodes.
