Inline pH electrode systems

The measuring of pH within a piece of pipework is a common method of ensuring that a process pH is within the desired parameters.

An alternative to installing a threaded insertion pH probe either directly into pipework or within a tee piece, is to use an inline pH electrode system.

An inline pH electrode system allows a pH electrode to be installed into a piece of pipework for the precision measurement of process pH. Our standard inline pH electrode systems are of a fixed size and are a neat solution to measuring pH inline, allowing the pH electrode to remain securely in position. Removal is simple, with the quick release fitting and when solvent welded into place, they become a permanent piece of the pipework.

Our inline pH electrode systems include a mechanism for the quick release of the pH electrode. When the probe can be easily removed, this makes periodic buffering and calibration of the pH electrode a quick and clean process.

We do recommend installing isolation valves and a bypass before and after an inline pH electrode system. The only exception to this is our lock-n-load retractable pH electrode system. The lock-n-load is self isolating, meaning that the pH probe can be removed, even when there is fluid running through the pipework. This is fantastic if the process is critical and cannot be stopped, even to allow the pH electrode to be buffered.

When measuring the pH of a process that is contained within a pipe it can be tempting to thread the pipe and install a pH probe with the corresponding thread. This can sometimes cause difficulty when it comes to removing the probe, either for maintenance, replacement or for a standard calibration. For an easy way to remove the pH sensor we recommend using one of our inline pH electrode systems. We have the PES-1-QR assembly for 3/4" pipework and the PES-2-QR inline pH electrode system for larger diameter pipes. These two systems are solvent welded into the pipework, or they can be supplied with threaded connections on request, to form an integral part of the pipework. Then when it's time to remove the pH electrode and the pipework has been drained and isolated, the pH electrode is removed from the inline electrode system using the quick release fitting. This takes a matter of minutes for easy maintenance.

Alternatively - we have the Lock 'N' Load retractable inline pH electrode system. This system is sealed from inside the end cap, so the retracting section of the Lock 'N" Load won't fly off under pressure and it also creates a seal with the pipework. When it's locked into place, the pH electrode can be removed without having to isolate and drain the pipework. It's a neat all-in-one-system, which means that there isn't a convoluted arrangement of ball valves or retaining cables, just a simple lift, twist and lock, to remove the electrode and carry out any maintenance.

Lock N Load

Lock N Load

The Lock N Load is another of our inline pH electrode holders - but with a difference

The Lock N Load is designed to be self isolating - with no need for clumsy ball valves or chains.

The end cap ensures that the Lock N Load is isolated from the inside. So there is no need to isolate the pipework first, or even stop the process flow.

Simply twist the mechanism - lift the assembly - then lock it into place with a quarter turn and the electrode is removed from the process and the assembly is isolated. Now the pH electrode can be removed from the sleeve for calibration or buffering.

The Lock N Load is a beautifully designed inline electrode assembly with ease of use at the forefront.

PES-1-QR

Quick Release Inline pH Electrode Holder

quick release inline ph electrode holder PES-1-QR

The PES-1-QR is a quick release inline pH electrode holder. Installed on the top of the electrode holder, is a threaded cap allowing the pH electrode to be secured into place within the pipework.

A standard 12mm diameter pH electrode can slip snuggly into the retaining sleeve, reducing any lateral movement. The pH electrode is also held in place vertically by a retaining nut, ensuring that the pH electrode cannot be pushed too far into the pipework to the point where it might be damaged.

The PES-1-QR is designed so that the pH electrode sits in the fluid running through the pipework. This ensures that the pH value is constantly being measured and that the pH electrode never sits in air which would cause it to dry out.

The PES-1-QR is designed to be either solvent welded into 3/4" pipework or alternatively, it can be threaded for connection to 1/2" pipework.

Quick Release inline pH electrode holder

The quick release mechanism is a superb design. It allows the pH electrode to be easily removed for periodic calibration and pH buffering. The collar holding the mechanism in place is simply unscrewed and the electrode removed from it's retaining sleeve.

The PES-1-QR quick release pH electrode holder doesn't self seal so we do recommend that isolation valves are fitted before and after the PES-1-QR. (We do offer a pH electrode holder that doesn't require isolation valves called the lock-n-load) this can ensure that when the pH electrode is removed, the process solution doesn't spray all over the operator!

The PES-1-QR can be used with any of our 9000 series electrodes, and the quick release inline pH electrode holder has a bulb guard which prevents damage from occurring to the pH electrode bulb.

PES-2-QR

Large Diameter Inline pH Probe System

large diameter inline ph probe system model pes 2 qr

The PES-2-QR is an inline pH probe system designed to give online pH measurements in large diameter pipework. The system is designed to ensure that the pH probe remains in constant contact with the solution being measured.

The PES-2-QR also includes a quick release mechanism allowing the probe to be removed simply and easily for periodic calibration or pH buffering.

As the PES-2-QR is a larger diameter inline pH probe system, it is designed for use in pipework with a minimum diameter of 2". We are able to offer custom sized inline pH electrode holders so if you have a specific piece of pipework you're looking to work with, then please get in contact with us, using the below form.

Large diameter inline pH Probe System PES-2-QR

The PES-2-QR has our special custom quick release fitting. This ensures that the pH probe is held in the flow for online pH measurements. The system is designed to work with both the annular reference pH probes and the tuff tip varieties. Specifically it is designed to work with the PS183-20B, the PTT183-20B and the PTT283-20B. If you have a requirement to Measure pH in Hydrofluoric acid then we offer the antimony pH probe AS183-20B.

The PES-2-QR large diameter inline pH probe system is designed to be solvent welded into the existing pipework so that the PES-2-QR becomes part of the existing pipework. We are able to manufacture the inline pH probe holder with either flanged or threaded fittings. If you have any specific requirements then please let us know via the form below.

As with the PES-1-QR quick release pH electrode holder, we do recommend that isolation valves are installed prior to and after the inline pH probe system. This ensures that when the pH probe requires periodic calibration, it can be safely removed without the risk of the process solution spraying all over the operator.

For a system which allows the pH probe to be removed without having to stop the process, we offer the self-isolating lock-n-load retractable inline pH electrode system.

Lock-N-Load (LNL)

Self-isolating retractable inline pH Electrode System

non isolating retractable inline pH electrode system model L N L

The Lock-N-Load retractable pH electrode system is quite simply a piece of engineering brilliance. Its designed to allow the user to continually measure the pH in a piece of pipework and then remove the pH electrode without having to worry about isolating the line.

The Lock-N-Load uses a clever piece of design to self isolate. This means that the solution being measured cannot escape through the area being measured by the pH electrode. Also, even when there is pressure in the pipework, the locking mechanism is designed with a safety first approach. The end cap seals from the inside out, ensuring that the retracting section is locked into place, preventing it from shooting out of the main body of the pipework.

Even with the safety precautions in place, the self isolating retractable inline electrode system or Lock-N-Load doesn't require ball valves, chains, or costly hardware to quickly remove the electrode from a pipeline. This helps to keep the cost of the unit down, as well as offering simple ease of use.

Self-isolating retractable inline pH Electrode System - Lock-N-Load

The design of the Lock-N-Load is it's main feature. Simply by twisting the electrode holder and then pulling the electrode up, followed by a twist, enables the Lock-N-Load to self isolate. The pH electrode can then be removed for calibration or buffering. The electrode can then be slid back into the sleeve and returned to monitor the process effluent. No need for isolation valves or ball valves to be installed into the pipework!

The replacement electrode is the 9392-10B which is a double junction pH electrode with a long body to ensure it remains within the process.

The Lock-N-Load is designed to work to fit into pipework with a 1 1/2" diameter on the standard unit. We can customise the holder to work with smaller pipework and it is normally either solvent welded into place, or threaded to screw into the process pipework. We can offer custom fittings if required to ensure compatibility with your process pipework.

The insertion length of the pH electrode is 63mm from the threaded section to the tip of the pH electrode. The end cap of the electrode holder protects the pH electrode so that it isn't prone to being damaged during insertion and also ensures that the Lock-N-Load is self isolating when retracted.

Self-isolating retractable inline pH electrode system Lock-N-Load materials of construction

The standard Lock-N-Load pH electrode holder is manufactured in PVC and rated for a temperature range of 0-60ºC.

At a pressure of 100 PSI the temperature range is reduced to 0-20ºC.

We also offer the Lock-N-Load manufactured in Kynar (PVDF) which is rated for use from  -5-100ºC and is limited to 0-20ºC at pressures up to 100 PSI.

Finally, we offer a stainless steel self isolating retractable inline pH electrode system in the lock-n-load range, (part number LNL-SS). This is specifically designed for the dairy and brewing industries. The thread is reduced in size to 1" BSP for smaller pipework. The replacement pH electrode is the 9392-SS-10B which is the standard 9392-10B with a stainless steel sheath to ensure compliance with the food and beverage sector.
