Obsolete Open Channel Flow Instruments

Open channel flow instruments have been used to measure the waste water discharge from industrial and municipal premises for many years. Many of the large textile works in the north of England had flumes with stilling wells fitted with large floats operating mechanical instruments providing readouts and mechanical counters for integrating the flow.

Air reaction systems became popular in the 1960s with the model 63 being the most popular flow recorder. Then came a profusion of electronic flow instruments offering several different measurement principals, our installed base used mainly the FPU range of flow meters being ultrasonic with optional air reaction system offered to customers with effluent discharges which could foam.
